Paul was born in Prestonpans, East Lothian, and lived there until 1996 when he moved a couple of miles up the road to Tranent which is now his home.

After leaving school, Paul became an apprentice with a local bricklayer company. Since then he has moved on, and he now runs his own successful building firm: McGuire Development Company.

Paul’s first race took place in 1995 during the McRae stages at Galashiels. He was offered the opportunity to co-drive for Colin Devenney when his co-driver was unavailable. Since then he hasn't looked back, co-driving with Richard Sykes, Ricky Wheeler, Chris MacKenzie, Tim Pearcey and Ian Campbell, to name but a few.

One of Paul and Ali’s best result to date would be in the 2006 Jim Clark Rally which they came 3rd O/A. This was despite severely damaging the car competing in the International Rally earlier in the weekend. With the help of the mechanics, they were able to get a great result.
As with many boys, Paul loved cars from an early age, however he wasn't able to indulge his passion for rallying until relatively recently. If it hadn't been for the backing of loyal sponsors (this is a very expensive sport), Paul and Ali wouldn't have been able to compete at the level required to win their first Scottish Championship in 2006.
